Monday, February 10th

  • LGBT Book Lover’s Social – Come out and meet like-minded people in their 40’s and 50’s at the Free Library of Philadelphia. Talk about good books and enjoy light refreshments from 6:30 to 8 pm. The event is free, but registration to deshauteursa@freelibrary.org is recommended.
  • Be Well, Play Well – Athletes, dancers, speakers, and actors are all welcome to this sports psychology workshop presented by Dr. Joseph Havlick, which shows performers how to get a mental edge on the field or stage. Hands on activities give participants an opportunity to experience imagery, relaxation, affirmations and mindfulness. Tickets are $25 per person.

Tuesday, February 11th

  • MacGyver Night at the Museum – Head over to the Franklin Institute to find out if you should cut the red wire or blue wire!  See if your skills match TV’s favorite special agent, Angus MacGyver. Explore, imbibe, and feed your curiosity at an evening event series exclusively for adults featuring experiments, demonstrations, conversations, cocktails, and innovative and engaging science!
  • Pretty Vacant: The Graphic Language of Punk – The Spring 2014 exhibition at Moore College of Art and Design features hundreds of flyers, posters, record sleeves, fanzines, and other memorabilia from punk’s hayday, all assembled from the Andrew Krivine collection. The iconic gallery will be on view through March 15th.
  • Quizzo at Bar-Ly – The game kicks off at 7:30 pm every Tuesday night, and includes both a blind beer-tasting round and finish-that-quote/name-that-actor movie and TV round! Win cash prizes and enjoy awesome happy hour specials like $3 beers and bar apps under $5.

Wednesday, February 12th

  • Shuck Buddies Happy Hour – Oyster House is partnering up with Yards Brewery, who will serve four different versions of their Love Oyster Stout: classic, chocolate, vanilla and coffee, at $3 a pour. This special is tacked onto Oyster House’s Buck-a-Shuck Happy Hour for $1 oysters and cherrystone clams from 5-7 pm at the bar.
  • Philadelphia Fashion Incubator at Macy’s Center City – Discover fashion creations from this year’s Designers in Residence at the launch of their 2014 collection alongside accessory designers from Italy, Hungary, France and Colombia. From 4 to 9 pm, view the showcase and peruse through trunk shows, pop-up shops, and enjoy the runway fashion show at The Transfer Station in Manayunk.
  • Puppy Love is back!  Join Devil’s Alley and Smokin’ Betty’s as they throw a Valentine’s Day puppy party for PSPCA.   The event encourages guests to “bring the one they REALLY love.”   You and your dog can enjoy food from local food trucks, cocktails, dancing, silent auction items, live music, puppy photo booth and more!

Thursday, February 13th

  • Bad Cupid Cabaret – The perfect event for those disenchanted by the Hallmark holiday, The Serial Grapists’s Anti-Valentine’s Day Cabaret features Bad Cupid in a raunchy, all grown up performance. Tickets are $15 at The Grape Room.
  • Red Wine, Dark Chocolate and Animals – Learn about the birds and the bees over a dessert spread of chocolate and wine as Mike Weilbacher presents the adaptations of animals for sex and reproduction. Friday, February 14th

  • BalletX Winter Series 2014 – Philadelphia’s premiere contemporary ballet company debuts their winter show from February 12 through 16 at the Wilma Theater. “Slump” is a  jazz and mambo “comedy of frivolous, sexually provocative manners”; James Gregg’s 7-party world premiere emotes falling in love for a first time; and “Delicate Balance” is a dynamic and demanding score, both physically and emotionally. Tickets are $35-40 general admission, and $22-25 for students.

Saturday, February 15th

  • Wild at Heart at the Philadelphia Zoo – This weekend, take a family-friendly, self-guided “love tour” of the most famous couples at the Zoo. Enjoy candy at different stations throughout the park, watch the animals receive Valentine’s treats from their keepers, and see local bakeries compete in a 3D novelty cake decorating contest, on Saturday between 10 and 2 pm. The tours are available from 10 to 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Bridesmaids’ Bash – Learn how to be the best bridesmaid at this breakfast and workshop at The Brossman Center on Germantown Ave. Enjoy a fashion show courtesy of Alisa’s Bridal Boutique and learn your roles and responsibilities, how to host a bridal shower, and how to plan the bachelorette party.   • President’s Day Weekend at the Constitution Center – learn about the POTUS’s role and responsibilities for leading the country as commander-in-chief. Kids can create campaign buttons and design their own presidential seals, and teens and adults can face off during games of Presidential Trivia. On Monday, pose for a photo with John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Abe Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt and listen to them speak at a round-table discussion at 12 pm with CBS 3’s Chris May. Sunday, February 16th

  • Simulated Fijnschilderij: Where Old Masters and Technology Meet – Artist Rosalind Sutkowski blends the methods of art from the Dutch Golden Age with new technology using digital photography, recycling imagery and backgrounds and including humor in formal, more traditional works. Her pieces are on display at Drexel University’s Rincliffe Gallery through March 14th with free admission.
  • Tri-State Indie Awards – This year is the 3rd annual awards show celebrating the best musicians, vendors, venues, promoters, festivals and more from the past year. Come out to the World Cafe Live and watch favorite local and regional artists perform and receive honors at this red carpet event. Tickets are $20 general admission and $50 for VIP.
  • The Sunday Funnies – This monthly comedy show at Buffalo Billiards is a “no cost” performance from 6:30 to 10 pm. Vote on your favorite three comics out of everyone showcased to win cash, prizes, and the opportunity to advance to the biannual “Showcase Showdown”. Enjoy dinner and drinks and a few laughs with your Valentine’s date.
