Philly Weekly’s Taste of Philly 2013

taste

This year is the 7th Annual Taste of Philly brought to us by Philly Weekly. Some of the city’s best restaurants, breweries, and bakeries came together at the Crystal Tea Room to let us sample their dishes.

We walked in very excited as some of these restaurants were places that we’ve been dying to try for a while. Bufad Pizza certainly did not let us down. Their margherita pizza was delicious but their speciality pizza packed tons of flavor with a spicy sauce and Mediterranean toppings. One of the dishes that stood out the most was IndeBlue’s intensely flavorful chicken drums, which were battered chicken wings in a garlic chili sauce topped with blue cheese crumble.

South Philly’s Los Gallos served up chips and handmade salsa as well as made-to-order tacos. One of our favorite local beers, Weyerbacher, was on hard with one of Victoria’s favorite brews for the fall, the well-balanced spiced Merry Monks. The Farmer’s Cabinet, famous for their drinks, stuck to their strengths and served a delicious cocktail with simple yet delicious charcuterie.

There were lots of meatballs, sandwiches, and interesting soups. Some of those soups were Bainbridge Barrel House’s chili with a nice kick, Victoria Freehouse’s spiced pumpkin curry soup, and Fire & Ice’s Viet-Thai chicken curry with crostini. As you can see, there were tons of hearty flavors for the colder weather.

As for dessert, there surely was a sweet selection to choose from. Audabon Bakery won is over with delicious macarons that were full of rich cream and fruit filling. They went perfectly with our new favorite drinks: The Traveler Beer Company’s collection of shandies. Kate’s favorite was the sweet strawberry flavor while Victoria enjoyed the ginger shandy the most.

After everyone was full off the food and feeling loose off the brews, the dance floor opened up. Guests danced to cover band, The Business, until the very end of the event. This is definitely one of the livelier foodie events in the city. Keep your eyes peeled for next year’s date.  We can’t wait!
