Here’s whats going on this week in Philly…

Monday, November 11th

  • Veterans Day at the Constitution Center – A flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony will take place in the morning, with special programming scheduled throughout the day. There will be activities for kids, such as flag etiquette and flag folding, arts and crafts and writing letters to veterans, as well as a performance by a military band and talks with veterans throughout the day. Museum admission is free to all veterans.
  • Open Mic Night at Mugshots – Mugshots Coffeehouse in Fairmount hosts an open mic session every Monday night from 7 to 9 pm. Sign ups begin at 6:30, and the show is hosted by Chris Hausman.

Tuesday, November 12th

  • Pat House’s Live CD Recording – Five-time finalist in Helium Comedy Club’s annual Philly’s Phunniest contest, local Pay House is making a special performance at 8 pm with a live taping. Tickets are $10.
  • Oh, Sugar! The Magical Transformation from Cane to Candy – Owners of Franklin Fountain and Shane Candies, brothers Eric and Ryan Berley, are curating a new exhibit all about sweets at The Independence Seaport Museum. Learn about the evolution of the sugar industry and Philadelphia’s role in its development, and view over 100 artifacts from the Berley’s collection of machinery. There is an old-fashioned candy kitchen for kids to play with, and the exhibit includes a stop at a vintage candy counter with a working gumball machine and sweets from Shane Confectionery to purchase.

Wednesday, November 13th

  • Women and Risk: Myth or Marketing Opportunity? – This year’s Global Interdependence Center Women’s Conference delves into the inequalities that face women in the workforce regarding financial services and products, career paths and the glass ceiling, negotiations, and funding. See the list of panel leaders and notable speakers, plus the day’s full schedule of programming here.
  • TASTE of Philly 2013 – From 6 to 9 pm, hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, entrees and desserts from some of the most popular restaurants in Center City with Philadelphia Weekly. A beer garden will be set up in the Crystal Tea Room for nonstop suds. Tickets are $35 – grab yours now and see which restaurants, nightspots and breweries will be participating.
  •  The Philadelphia Asian American Film Festival – Sponsored by HBO, the PAAFF kicks off its 6th year of this festival celebrating Philadelphia population of over 90,000 Asian Americans. Films and discussion panels will take place from the 13th to the 23rd at the International House and Asian Arts Initiative. Admission is $8, and $6 or students/seniors. Thursday, November 14th

  • Spa Night with Hand And Stone – Hand And Stone Logan Square, is hosting a night of discounted spa treatments to enjoy with friends. Mix and mingle while enjoying massages, facials, and other specialties for $20-40. Guests will also enjoy 10% off of retail products, their lifestyle program, and discounts on future appointments, in addition to light bites and beverages.   • Art Auction for Anne Boysen: The Art of Exuberance – Bid on the work from one of Philadelphia’s finest painters, Anne Boysen, who passed away in 2011. Her work was said to reflect qualities of Arthur B. Charles and Monet, especially in these landscape pieces and floral abstractions. Bid on her pieces beforehand here, and then attend the benefit auction at the International House, beginning at 7 pm with a preview, reception, and also after party. The event is free, but RSVPs are required.
  • India Innovation Conference – Academics, industry leaders, government officials and public policy experts from across the globe will speak about innovation in India and its implications for world affairs in this two-day conference. Friday, November 15th

  • Beyond the Paint: Philadelphia’s Mural Arts – The Mural Arts program is documented through a new exhibit at PAFA, opening the 15th through April 6, 2014. Their timeline with images, interactive materials and more show how the program has engaged thousands of community members with over 3,000 murals which have transformed the city and earned Philadelphia’s title as the City of Murals. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for students, seniors and military. RSVP here to attend the opening reception from 6:30 to 8:30.
  • Through the Skin – Koresh Dance Company features Aristic Director Roni Koresh’s piece, Through the Skin, this weekend at the Suzanne Roberts Theater on South Broad Street. His full-length work is “designed to bypass the intellect, engaging the audience on an emotional and visceral level… directly through the skin”. Tickets are $30-35, and $25 for students.
  •  CollegeHumor Live – CollegeHumor.com’s Jake & Amir, and Streeter Seidell take to the Trocadero for a night of sketch and standup comedy. Tickets are $16, and the show starts at 8 pm.

 Saturday, November 16th

  • Yoga for Dudes – This free class kicks off the Maha Yoga & Healing Arts’ Yoga for Dudes program in December. Discover challenging and energetic poses, strength building, flexibility, safety and alignment in this class specifically for men.
  • Yeezus Tour – Kanye is back on the road, resuming his tour in Philadelphia after a car crash damaged the 60’ LED screen, integral to the show. Along with Kendrick Lamar, he will be playing at the Wells Fargo Center at 8pm. Tickets run from $36 to $196.
  • Tango to Feed Those in Need – The second of Argen Tango Dancers’ two food drives for the Food Bank of South Jersey and Feed America takes place from 8 to 10 pm at Dance Time Studio. Take part in a group tango class for either $20 admission, supermarket gift certificate, or canned and boxed foods.

Sunday, November 17th

  • Sunday Funday with Philly PR Girl – Join us for the Eagles game against the Redskins at Philly Phaithful, this year’s winner of PhillyMag’s Best of Philly Sportswear. The party begins at 12, and the match starts at 1 pm. Your $15 ticket includes food, beer, booze, and specials on store merchandise. We’ll be watching on a 16′ HD screen!
  • 17 Border Crossings – Based on Thaddeus Phillips’ experiences in crossing country borders around the globe, his solo theatrical piece combines these accounts in a singularly surreal performance that is both hilarious and haunting. FringeArts hosts his show at their new headquarters from the 13th through the 17th.
  •  Spring Gardens Brew Day and Picnic – Learn how to brew your own beer at The Spring Gardens from 3 to 6 pm. Bring your own picnic, and receive a 22 oz bomber of beer brewed on-site at the event, available for pick up a month later. Tickets are $20.
