Monday, November 4th

  • Building A Sustainable Life as an Artist –  This free intensive discussion from Artists U is a three-part workshop starting on November 4th, 11th and 18th from 7 to 9 pm. Learn about why artists make low wages, the tools you have access to as an artist, and how to build a balanced, productive and sustainable lifestyle doing what you life.
  • ThinkFest – PhillyMag’s weeklong programming featuring Philadelphia’s brightest innovators includes a discussion on Philadelphia’s Emerging Drag Queen Culture withDito van Reigersberg (a.k.a. Martha Graham Cracker), Ian Morrison (a.k.a. Brittany Lynn), and John Jarboe of The Bearded Ladies Cabaret on Monday the 4th. Tuesday, November 5th

  • Kamikaze Karaoke – Every Tuesday from 9 pm to 1 am at the Ten Six Club, take part in a daring twist on karaoke. You choose to sing, and they choose the song! Happy Hour is from 8 to 10 and includes $5 sake bombs and $4 asahi.
  • The Convert – The Wilma Theater’s newest performance features a story described as “unflinching, yet compassionate” about a young girl from Southern Africa who escapes a forced marriage. The show runs until November 10th, and tickets are $46 general admission, $23 for individuals in their 20’s.

Wednesday, November 6th

  • Slow Supper with Johnny Mac – Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens plays host to a street food-inspired meal from Chef Andrew Gerson (Brooklyn House), Chef Johnny Mac (Rival Brothers Coffee Roasters), and Chef Michael Sultan (Street Food Philly). Tickets are $75, and all proceeds go to Slow Food Philadelphia.
  • Inside the Kennedy White House – Best-selling author Robert Dallek will discuss JFK’s time in office and the relationships between his inner circle of advisors, analyzing who contributed what to some of the significant events during Kennedy’s administration.  Tickets are $30 for non-members and includes a copy of his book.
  • Daikaiju and Vintage Kicks at KungFu Necktie – Local band Vintage Kicks host a fun night of music.  You have to check out this crazy, high energy, action packed band called Daikaiju – If you like good music, and a good show, you should go.

Thursday, November 7th

  • i-g creative presents a fun event called the 215 Collection including photography by Lauman Photo Ink, art by Alloyius McIlwaine, and much more!  6pm
  • Svadba Wedding – Part of FringeArts, this four-show production at Opera Philadelphia will take place on Wednesday and Thursday this week, portraying the story of Milica and her five girlfriends as they prepare for her wedding night. The opera is performed in Slavik with English subtitles. Audiences will participate in a Balkan wedding celebration after the performance with traditional cuisine and live dance music from the West Philadelphia Orchestra.
  • 5th Annual Notable Kitchen Tour and Chef Showcase – Help to raise money for the Philadelphia Orchestra with private, self-guided tours through beautiful kitchens on the Main Line. Each kitchen features a chef, floral display, and beautiful table setting for four. Tickets are $40.
  • Kate Nash – 22-year-old songstress Kate Nash comes to Philadelphia with opener La Sera to perform at Union Transfer. Tickets to her 8:30 show are $15-17.  She’s a Philly PR Girl FAV!

Friday, November 8th

  • PhilCon 2013 – The Philadelphia Science Fiction Society presents its 77th anniversary science fiction convention this weekend at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill. Authors, publishers, artists, editors, scientists and fans will participate in readings, discussions, presentation, special programmings and a masquerade all about sci-fi, fantasy, horror, art, anime, steampunk, music, comics and more.   • Less Than Jake – Channel your inner punk at Less Than Jake’s show at the Trocadero, on Fat Tour 2013 with Anti-Flag, Masked Intruder, and Get Dead. Show starts at 8 pm, and tickets are $20.

Saturday, November 9th

  • Roller Derby Hall of Fame Game – The Penn Jersey Roller Derby and National Roller Derby Hall of Fame are teaming up with former Philadelphia Warriors for an “Old Timer’s” game. The first game will be followed by a second one by Penn Jersey’s up-and-coming skaters and an old school fusion match with rolling packs and change-overs. Tickets are $6-15.
  • Che Bella Mostra D’Arte and Fictional Memoirs – Two separate exhibitions will appear at the James Oliver Gallery in November, featuring Giappo DiFederico and Jayne Surrena, contemporary collage artists. The exhibition will run through December 7th, with an opening reception taking place on the 9th from 6-10 pm. The reception will include beverages and music inspired by the work, spun by DJ Tony East.
  • First Annual Book Marketing Conference – Learn how to sell your novel or non-fiction work in large quantities with APSS’s two-day conference. Attend one-on-one consultations and get clued in to secrets from industry members.
  • Craft Beer Express (11am-7pm) Pay $10 & “crawl” away!

Sunday, November 10th

  • The Cambridge Chili Cook-Off (1508 South St) – Chilli, Pumpkin Beer, & more starting at 3pm.
  • Jazz at the Kimmel Center – Philly native and 10 time Grammy Award-winner Bobby McFerrin will perform at 7:30 in Verizon Hall. The vocalist best known for his hit tune, “Don’t Worry, Be Happy” will perform spirityouall, which pulls from Americana and blues roots. Tickets are $38-74.
  • The 20/20 Experience World Tour – Justin Timberlake returns to Philadelphia after his huge, two-night engagement with Jay Z on his solo world tour. Tickets run from $50 to $175 for his 8 pm performance at the Wells Fargo Center.
  • DanceAfrica Philadelphia – Lancaster Avenue’s Community Education Center (CEC) and Drexel University host the premiere of Dance Africa Philadelphia, a two-day festival of concerts, dance and drumming workshops, and open marketplace. Enjoy music and rhythm with African, African-American, Hip-Hop and Afro-Cuban influence from Philadelphia’s Kùlú Mèlé African Dance and Drum Ensemble, Kariamu and Co.
