Monday, October 14th

  • Modern/Classical European Design – Italian-born Marco Master hosts a presentation on Italian design that creates warmth and intimacy using simple lines and meticulous design. For free at the Marketplace Design Center on Market Street as part of the annual DesignPhiladelphia 2013 festival.
  • Global Philly 2013 Appetizers – Indulge in specialty international appetizers created for the Global Philadelphia Association’s fall exposition when dining out this week. The chefs at Sbraga, Tashan, Bistro La Minette, La Calaca Feliz, Zama, Zinc, and Han Dynasty each offer their take on global bites on the restaurants’ menus through November 1st.
  • Boobie Bingo at the Irish Pol – Play Bingo & Drink Beer for a good cause!

Tuesday, October 15th

  • 6th Annual Free College Concert – The Philadelphia Orchestra is offering a free performance for college students as part of their eZseatU college ticket program. The 8 pm show includes pieces by Tchaikovsky, Strauss, and selections from Don Juan, The Three-Cornered Hat, and Prism Rhapsody for marimba and orchestra. Reserve your free tickets online here.
  • Folkadelphia Presents Time & Temperature – Val Glenn (Time & Temperature) plays an intimate show at The Random Tea Room in promotion of her upcoming release alongside multi-instrumentalist and “long-haired harpist extraordinaire” Jesse Sparhawk and local singer-songwriter Gretchen Lohse. Show is at 7:30, admission is $5-10 donation for the artists.

Wednesday, October 16th

  • It’s Always Sunny at Mac’s – Mac’s Tavern at 2nd and Market plays It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia when it airs every Wednesday at 10 pm on FXX. Start off your night with Quizzo at 8 pm, $3 Lager pints all night and $2 PBR and High Life pounds from 7 to 10.
  • The Business of Making Music – The Kimmel Center hosts a three-part seminar for students and graduates working in the music industry that will touch upon leveraging connections and network circles, and developing skillsets and knowledge of topics like contacts, intellectual property, economics, and more. Moderated by Dyana Williams of Radio One with Michael McArthur, Jerome Hipps, Ivan Barias and Carvin Haggins, admission is free but pre-registration is required.
  • 53rd Annual Shipley Shops – Over 40 premiere retailers from throughout the U.S. will be setting up shop at The Shipley School Upper Campus in Bryn Mawr, where 20% of each purchase will benefit The Shipley School. Taste creations from their new caterers, and grandparents, parents and alumni are invited to take part in tea ceremonies scheduled each day. Shopping is free and open to the public.

Thursday, October 17th

  • Baubles & Bubbles at Skai Blue – Sue Peltzman, the artist and creator of TOBY jewelry, gives an exclusive look at her first collection at a red carpet event hosted by Skai Blue Media. Wine, champagne and hors d’oeuvres will be served from 6 to 9; RSVPs are required to RSVP@skaibluemedia.com.
  • Philadelphia Film Festival – The 22nd annual Film Festival kicks off on Thursday night and runs through the 27th. During this two-week showcase over 200 works including features, live action, animated shorts, films and documentaries. Check the schedule for industry panels, director Q&As, special event screenings, and networking opportunities to celebrate and promote the local talents born from the Philadelphia region.

Friday, October 18th

  • The AwesomeFest’s Drive-in Movie Series – Eakins Oval is hosting a series of double-feature drive-in movies in the fall, every Friday night from October 18th through November 22nd (except for the 15th). If you have a car, tickets are $19, but pedestrians and cyclists are welcome to join for free. Food trucks and concessions will be available on site.
  • LivingSocial’s Craft Beer Festival – Grab a $39 ticket to Friday or Saturday’s BeerFest at the Piazza at Schmidt’s, and tap into over 80 craft beers with your friends. Food trucks and restaurant vendors will be there to serve food in between rounds of lawn activities and drinking games, and live music will be going throughout the event.   • Young Professionals Night at the Barnes Foundation – Explore the Barnes at night during after hours with other young professionals in Philadelphia from 7 to 10 pm. Picasso’s Rose Period will be the backdrop of this seasonal event, which offers drink specials, dance with DJ Isaac and DJ Red Richards spinning global and house music. Tickets are $30, $15 for members.

Saturday, October 19th

  • Glow for the Cure – Bakes Sunless Tanning will offering complimentary organic spray tans while collecting donations for the American Cancer Society. Light food and mimosa bar from 10AM-5PM!
  • Moonviewing Weekend – Celebrate Otsukimi, or moonviewing, with the Japanese House and Garden in the traditional fall festivity giving thanks for a good harvest. Activities occuring over the weekend include a party on the veranda, tea ceremony, a traditional Japanese choral performance, kamishibai storytelling, a sweets-making class, Otsukimi offering display, and more. Reservations are required for some events.
  • 7th Annual PAWS Mutt Strut – Bring a pooch, a friend, or rent a puppy for the day at PAWS’ yearly dog walk and fall festival at The Navy Yard. Help to raise money and awareness for this organization which helps homeless, abandoned, and unwanted animals by registering and participating in (or watching!) various fun contests and dog courses. The event promises food trucks, live music, giveaways, prizes, and more.
  • Blocktoberfest 2013 – Four blocks of South Street, from Broad to 18th, will be transformed into an all-day block party for Octoberfest, that is free to attend for all ages. A huge selection of beers will be available alongside food from local vendors and food trucks. Enjoy live music while you hang outdoors from noon to 8 pm. Grab your beer bracelet online before heading over!

Sunday, October 20th

  • 27th Annual AIDS Walk Philly – Help raise awareness for HIV and AIDS by joining in the 5k route on Martin Luther King Drive. Proceeds will be donated towards HIV prevention education, public awareness, and HIV care services located in the Greater Philadelphia region. Register online today.
  • 2013 TASTE Philadelphia – This weekend, the Valley Forge Casino Resort is all about food, wine and spirits! Handfuls of TV’s best celebrity chefs will be in attendance for presentations, meet and greets, seminars, and more. See the guest list, confirmed events, and order tickets online.
  • Tango Fire: Flames of Desire – The Kimmel Center presents a musical history of the tango, from Buenos Aires to cabaret with a fiery performance from professional Artgentinian tango dancers, among them 5 world tango champions. Show is at 4 pm, tickets are $35-65.
