Spring in the City

spring

Spring in any city is a beautiful thing. Daylight savings tells us that the days are officially getting longer, making the weather is brighter. (At 45 degrees F this year, it’s not exactly excitable weather, but it should be sunny!) Here are a few extra things to be excited about as spring is upon Philadelphia:

Opening of Franklin Square

Rain or shine, Franklin Square opens on the first day of spring for Philadelphia’s daily enjoyment until next January. In its seventh year, the seasonal celebration will have Benjamin Franklin showing off the historic park’s attractions starting at noon. See why Franklin Square has been awarded Best of Philly® twice by Philadelphia Magazine and one of the Five Coolest Playgrounds in the United States by Yahoo! Welcome spring with free rides on the carousel, miniature golf, burgers and shakes from Stephen Starr’s SquareBurger.

Free Rita’s Day

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a friend who once biked to six different Rita’s on this day… Like many others (who are perhaps a little less enthused), people love Free Rita’s Day, which is such a treat to celebrate the arrival of spring! Fun fact: in 2012, over 1.2 million cups were given to customers in a ten-hour period. Join them in the 21st annual event from noon until 9PM at dozens of participating locations in the area.

Crabbie’s Party at Growlers

After all the family fun mentioned above, the adults deserve a reward. Stop by Growlers in Bella Vista for some refreshing Crabbie’s Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer – the number one best selling beer in the United Kingdom. There are few beers like this widely available in the US, so stop in from 5PM until close to try it! Explore these new flavors with beers at $3 and $5 featured cocktails.

Time to Cleanup

It’s important to volunteer and help make your city a better place.  I’d like to mention the Annual Spring Cleanup day in Philadelphia brought to you by the Streets Department   So on Saturday, April 13th gather your friends & neighbors and help cleanup YOUR neighborhood.  Click here to learn more.

Now how do we skip the April showers and jump to the May flowers part??
