Stay Current Philadelphia

I recently went to the launch party for a new magazine called “Philly Current.”   Two dear friends, Jackie Rupp and Eddie Keels, decided to start this brand new publication.  Close friends, family and contributors gathered to celebrate the first issue’s launch!  I was able to grab the Publishers for a quick interview and congratulate them on the fabulous first issue!

Philly PR Girl: I’m curious, how did you two meet?
JR: I was actually just playing around on the internet, googling random local sites, and somehow stumbled onto Eddie’s business page- www.looseleafconcepts.com. I fell in love with it on the spot and had to email telling him what a cool site he had created. It was funky, but retro, everything that I love that he does so well.
Philly PR Girl:  What made you decide to take the leap and start your own publication?
EK: After Jackie reached out to me about my company, our conversation quickly turned to Philly publications (and what we thought they were lacking). From there, our creative ideas turned into a virtual business plan. Both being proactive individuals, we messed around with the possibility of starting our own mag. Needless to say, we fused our ideas into what the Philly public can see today. It was a whirlwind startup, but one that will definitely stand the test of time. We couldn’t be happier with our decision to take that leap.
Philly PR Girl:  I love that each issue will have a different theme, what made you choose “design” as the first theme?
JR: Both of us love design. It’s our “thing.”  So, it was almost a natural choice for us to take that passion and channel it into the first issue where we could talk about all the amazing ways design is celebrated in Philly. Despite what some stereotypes will have you think, Philly is a beautiful city. We wanted to remind everyone of that.

Philly PR Girl: Where can locals find Philly Current?
EK: PC can be found in a variety of locations, as we pride ourselves on being where our people are. You can find us in hundreds of Greater Philadelphia spots. Our most common sites are high-traffic supermarkets, high-end retail stores, offices, residences, hotels, and fooderies. We are spread throughout Center City, Rittenhouse, Old City, University City, NoLibs, South Philly, South Jersey, The Main Line, and other affluent suburbs.
The easiest way to ensure you get your hands on a copy is hitting up one of the many Wawas or CVSs we’re currently stocked in (http://phillycurrent.com/locations.html). Moreover, we provide yearly subscriptions, where folks can get a year’s worth (6 issues) of Philly Current Magazine delivered directly to their door (http://phillycurrent.com/subscribe.html).
Philly PR Girl: Whats the theme of the next issue?
JR: FOOD! What can we say, it’s a universal subject that we all love and everyone likes to talk about. When we get together with friends, don’t we all want to talk about the latest spot we visited or the fabulous meal we whipped up last night? But PC always do things a little different with our themes, so definitely be prepared for some surprises.
Philly PR Girl: Can you share any secrets with the Philly PR Girl readers?

EK: As far as our next issue is concerned, we do have a little secret to share. You may see a couple, uber-influential Philadelphians gracing our pages (and cover).  All we can say is that they were elected to help run a better, safer, and awesome-er Philly. Put your thinking cap on…

I love this Magazine!  Be sure to follow Philly Current on Facebook and check out their Website.
Each issue has a theme…such a great concept!  Here are some pictures of their launch party!
