We want to know…. What  is your favorite Philly style trend?

Hipster
Let’s start with Hipsters!  For those of you that might not be that “hip” Urban Dictionary states: Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20s and 30s that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter.  Hipsters reject the culturally-ignorant attitudes of mainstream consumers and are often seen wearing tight-fitting jeans, old-school sneakers, and sometimes thick rimmed glasses.

Think:  Vintage and Thrift Store fashions, American Apparel, Urban Outfitters

Yuppies:

(Y)oung (U)rban (P)rofessional, or YUP turned into “yuppie” in the 1980s.
So I have to admit my friend had to tell me what a “yuppie” was!  Previously known as a young middle-class professional who works a city job and has a luxurious, metropolitan lifestyle.  Yuppies tend to dress nicely and take care of themselves to keep up with the Joneses. (Side note: OMG am I am Yuppie?)

Think:  J.Crew, GAP, H&M

Rockabilly

Philly does have a Rockabilly scene, but it is not enough since I am so intrigued by this lifestyle!   The term originated as a combination of the words “rock and roll” and “hillbilly,” the latter referring to slang for country music. Since the 1950s, it has evolved into a fashion style all its own, and sometimes referred to as “psychobilly” for the “hillbilly” component plus “punk.”  Its style features slicked hair, vintage, bright hair and makeup!

Think: Elvis Presley, Tattoos, Pin-Up Style

Sports Gear

If you know anything about this city, you know that Philadelphians are passionate about their sports!  Hence on any given day, you will undoubtedly see at least alot of people that are in sports gear.  Hats & jerseys are year-round favorites for these Philly fans 7 days a week, 365 days a year…not just on game days!

Think: Phillies tees, Flyers jerseys, and Eagles sweats

South Philly

No, I’m not talking about the elaborate Mummers costumes… South Philly definitely has its own style.   We’re going to let the pictures speak for themselves. P.S.  Don’t forget to GTL: gym, tan, laundry.  Think: Thick Philly accents, velour jumpsuits, gold chains
