Dancing and Drinking Through the Decades (Part 3)

In the final installment of “Dancing and Drinking Through the Decades” I’d like to leave you with some possible new dance moves, some good parties to go to, and a little teaser that this post may someday “come to life.”

1970’s

Disco Balls, Afros, and Platform Shoes (worn by men & women)….man I would have loved the 70’s!  In the 70’s Disco ruled the world and Rocky hit the Movie Theaters.   Philadelphia Soul music was huge and Soul Train was one of the most popular TV programs!

Philly’s famous Disc Jockey Jerry Blavat, also known as the Geator with The Heator,” opened Memories in Margate, NJ in 1972 which is still open today and one of the Jersey Shore’s most popular nightclubs.   Head down the Parkway (with your big 70’s Sunglasses!) to do the Hustle, Night Fever Line Dance, and The Bump!

1980’s

First of all,  am I the only one that misses Poly Esthers?  I could not do a “themed bar” piece and not mention my all time favorite club in Philly.  I used to love it there!  If you liked Poly Esthers do yourself and head up the Turnpike to NYC and hit up NYC’s 80’s club, The Culture Club.

Back to Phillly…..no doubt about it, The Boss of the 80’s was Bruce Springsteen.  It’s only natural that the City of Brotherly Love pays tribute with a collection of his finest moments at “From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen” in the Constitution Center.

If you haven’t been to DJ Deejay’s Madonna/Michael/Prince night, better known as MMP, what are you waiting for!  He’s one of my FAV DJ’s in Philly and this is the best 80’s party .  He spins regularly at Silk City, The Barbary, and The Moushulu.

1990’s

If the 80s aren’t your scene (or you’re too young to understand it), the Trocadero hosts a 90’s Dance Party throughout the year with DJ Money Fame Love.  Expect a mix of epic pop (i.e. Hit Me Baby One More Time), rock anthems (Smells Like Teen Spirit), and other old school jams.  I’m trying to find out when the next one is and will let you all know!

As a native Philadelphian, Benjamin Franklin, once wrote, “There can’t be good living where there is not good drinking.”
