Sad Day for Philadelphia Radio

I’m going to try not to make these posts personal, but there is no way around this, it’s a sad day for the WYSP Family, which I was once a part of.  I worked for WYSP for 8 years as part of the promotions staff and met some of my best friends through YSP.  When I started, WYSP was the #1 rock station in Philly and we ruled the air ways with Howard Stern and Opie and Anthony.  I can’t even begin to tell the stories of all the fun we had back then,  but trust me when I say it was straight up a Rock & Roll Radio Station!  It didn’t matter what they called YSP:  The Rock Station, Free FM, or the Rock You Grew Up With….YSP was YSP and I loved every minute of it!

So today it’s official starting September 6th WIP will take over WYSP’s signal and it will be known as 94WIP Sports Radio.  It’s the end of an era.  But I’ll always have these memories…..

  1. I completely agree it is a sad day in radio in Philly. I do not agree with the “suits” decision to move 610 sports radio to YSP. Just because 97.5 The Fan might have been successful, Philly does not need two FM stations dedicated to sports talk. Move 610 to that crap station Q102 and leave the rock alone. I understand that rock radio in the nation is struggling to survive vs other formats and genres and its sad to see a staple in Philly fall.
